PROJECT #4: RECREATING AN ARTWORK DUE MODAY, MAY 11th
Dear parents and students,
As we are nearing the end of the school year, I thought it might be a fun change of pace to focus on photography. For this project, you are to recreate an artwork. This may be a famous work of art, or something less-known.
You do NOT need to be in the photo, but you do need to send your inspiration image as well as your photo to my e-mail. Feel free to stretch your imagination and please view the PDF for more instruction and examples.
If you are searching for a famous artwork to use as your inspiration, you can choose one from the list in the PDF, or you may search for your own using a safe search option like www.safesearchkids.com

Project #2: Impressionism and Plein Air Drawing Due Monday, April 20th
En plein air is a French expression that means “in the open air.”
It is used by artists to describe the art of outdoor painting, capturing landscapes and views in natural light. Famous Impressionists in France, such as Claude Monet used this technique often to create his beautiful landscapes. For this assignment, you are to walk outside and draw what you see! If you are unable to leave the interior of your house, you may draw or paint your project looking outside a window. As always, use a full page for your drawing. Please read project guidelines attached in PDF file. Take a picture of your artwork and e-mail it to me at [email protected] |

Just for Fun: "Embracing Our Differences" Art Contest
Diversity is at the heart of what it means to be an artist.
Art is a powerful tool to evoke social change. Without uttering a single word, artists can enlighten, educate and affect change around the world. Embracing Our Differences invites you to participate in creating a world where differences are embraced and individuality is celebrated. Become a part of this exciting change through your visual art submission to the annual Embracing Our Differences international juried competition.
Featuring 50 billboard-size images, each work of art is created by local, national and international artists reflecting their interpretation of our theme "enriching lives through diversity and inclusion."
The 2020 exhibit is on display January 18 - April 5, 2020 at Bayfront Park in downtown Sarasota.

JUST FOR FUN: DOODLE FOR GOOGLE ART CONTEST
This year’s Doodle for Google theme is:
“I SHOW KINDNESS BY...”
Friendship, smiles, thank yous, and hugs.
But kindness is so much more than just being nice. This year’s theme invites you to tell us how you show kindness. Is it by helping around your home? Volunteering in your community’s green space? Maybe it’s comforting someone who’s down, or picking up trash in the park.
However you define it, let us know how you bring a little bit more kindness into the world. Take your ideas and bring them to life in your doodle!

Virtual Learning
Hello! I hope everyone has been making the most of their virtual learning this week. I wanted to give general information and flexible art lessons to extend the learning to your home. Here, you should find various art resources, contest information and art lessons that you can complete with what you already have at your house! Please check back on Fridays for any additional information or activities.
Attention Parents and Students:
Dear Students and Parents:
Please refer to the Lost Mountain Middle School Art Blog Homepage when looking for assignments. All information and projects will be posted there. Projects are encouraged, whereas all other work is optional. At this time, all work for each grade level is the same. I understand that students may have limited supplies, so projects have been simplified so that they can be completed at home with nothing more than a pencil and paper, or other alternative materials.
Please refer below to the excerpts from Dr. Nyeste’s e-mail on grading for more information:
“Our plan is to provide students with digital instruction and practice to continue the learning process from home.
Some of our students will not have access to technology or the internet from home; therefore, we will not hold students accountable for digital work with a grade.
We will provide instruction and practice to build student understanding of content standards. Our teachers will provide your child with numerous digital learning resources to assist your child in learning from home.
The biggest takeaway from this experiment is to realize we are providing a basic framework of instruction. We encourage students to be available during their scheduled office hours to continue with their learning. Grades at this time are not our focus; continuing learning is. We will pick up with all instruction and grades when we return to school.”

Welcome in, Q2 students!
Dear Students,
I am so glad to have you in Art! This quarter is going to be great. Please remember that all syllabus and sketchbooks are due next Friday, October 25th. If you need an extra copy of the syllabus, there are extra in the classroom. There is also a digital version below.
Students- Please note that although project outlines are provided on the class blog, details are provided in class. This is because there are so many steps to each project and most require a demonstration. This is also because some supplies cannot leave the classroom. If you are absent, please be sure to get with me- Mrs. Harper, so that we can work together to get you caught up!
I am also available during Eagle Block or before school from 8:15-8:45 for any tutoring or make-up work.

WATERSMART CALANDER CONTEST
waterSmart is a water conservation education program initiated by the Cobb County-Marietta Water Authority (CCMWA) in 2000. CCMWA is a regional public utility that provides wholesale potable water to customers in Cobb County, Paulding County, and parts of Cherokee, Fulton and Douglas Counties. It is the second largest supplier of potable water in Georgia. The mission of waterSmart is to educate citizens throughout their service area about the value of water and the importance of indoor and outdoor water conservation and to encourage sustainable, year-round conservation, regardless of climate conditions.

The waterSmart program sponsors three contests each year to give students at all grade levels an opportunity to learn about water conservation and the value of water.

For this project, we took a look at how cartoons used to be made and discussed the multilane camera. We then discussed bone structure as well as how cartoons have very exaggerated features. After, we applied our knowledge to come up with our idea of what the bone structure for each of these cartoons may look like. We then applied our designs on transparencies in order to incorporate what we learned about the multilane camera and how it functions.
