Dear Students and Parents:
Please refer to the Lost Mountain Middle School Art Blog Homepage when looking for assignments. All information and projects will be posted there. Projects are encouraged, whereas all other work is optional. At this time, all work for each grade level is the same. I understand that students may have limited supplies, so projects have been simplified so that they can be completed at home with nothing more than a pencil and paper, or other alternative materials. Please refer below to the excerpts from Dr. Nyeste’s e-mail on grading for more information: “Our plan is to provide students with digital instruction and practice to continue the learning process from home. Some of our students will not have access to technology or the internet from home; therefore, we will not hold students accountable for digital work with a grade. We will provide instruction and practice to build student understanding of content standards. Our teachers will provide your child with numerous digital learning resources to assist your child in learning from home. The biggest takeaway from this experiment is to realize we are providing a basic framework of instruction. We encourage students to be available during their scheduled office hours to continue with their learning. Grades at this time are not our focus; continuing learning is. We will pick up with all instruction and grades when we return to school.”

Students have started their mosaic designs! We have discuss Mosaics, what they were used for, as well as discussed their designs. Students have drawn two rough drafts and picked their best before moving on to their final. See information below:
For this project, students are to write their name in either block or bubble letters, then draw lines over their entire page that break apart their letters and background.
Next, students will decide to either color their letters in warm or cool colors. The background will be colored in the opposite color scheme. The colors must change when the shape is intersected by a line. Examples will be coming soon!
This past week, we have been discussing VALUE and how to create value in an artwork. Students developed PATTERNS to create a range of value, then applied it to overlapping outlines of their hands to help develop DEPTH. See their hard work below!
We have recently started a lesson on using shade, tint and tone in an artwork. Below are the worksheets we have been using to apply what has been taught. Check out the student work below!
Students have just gotten back their portfolios! They worked hard to create 3-D, Serif style letters. We learned about different fonts and how to create them. See their hard work below. |
