Dear Students and Parents:
Please refer to the Lost Mountain Middle School Art Blog Homepage when looking for assignments. All information and projects will be posted there. Projects are encouraged, whereas all other work is optional. At this time, all work for each grade level is the same. I understand that students may have limited supplies, so projects have been simplified so that they can be completed at home with nothing more than a pencil and paper, or other alternative materials. Please refer below to the excerpts from Dr. Nyeste’s e-mail on grading for more information: “Our plan is to provide students with digital instruction and practice to continue the learning process from home. Some of our students will not have access to technology or the internet from home; therefore, we will not hold students accountable for digital work with a grade. We will provide instruction and practice to build student understanding of content standards. Our teachers will provide your child with numerous digital learning resources to assist your child in learning from home. The biggest takeaway from this experiment is to realize we are providing a basic framework of instruction. We encourage students to be available during their scheduled office hours to continue with their learning. Grades at this time are not our focus; continuing learning is. We will pick up with all instruction and grades when we return to school.”

Students have recently started drawing their Still Life at their table. Students completed a shading practice worksheet, then created their own view finder. Students who have completed both assignments have begun to set up their Still Life at their tables. Students are working on drawing a variety of textures (metal, wood, fabric, etc. ) within each composition. Our focus for this project is 3D rendering.
For this project, students are learning to draw the proportions of the face, then turning their face into a character of their own! After, we will be turning these into Optical Illusions where the eyes follow you around the room. Students are also learning how to use watercolor pencils! A spooky look at Proportion and Illusion. Examples to come!
For this project, students had to learn about the properties of clay. Students also had to understand how to create in image "in-the-round" with good proportions that would support their work and create effective balance. Check out their finished products! They actually move.
Students have completed their Pop Art Candy grid paintings! Check out their work below. We are starting our Day of the Dead Piñatas! Students are working in pairs to create their piñata design. Students will begin constructing their piñata later this week! Stay tuned for more updates.
