Students were recently introduced to the wonderful method of creating batik cloth. Students will be applying this "wax resist" technique to a lesson on watercolor mixing.
After students glazed their ceramic vessel, we learned how to give constructive feedback. We discussed what a critique is and how to use one effectively. Students graded their work then gave another student a compliment, a suggestion and closed with another positive statement about the students work.
This week in art, we discussed Op Art: what it is, where it came from, and how to create it. Students also began their rough drafts using Op Art methods using either warm or cool color schemes. Student work will be posted once completed!
This week in art, we started our clay unit! Students learned about the different types of hand-building techniques, as well as the different stages of clay. Students began by designing their ceramic vessel and continued by creating their favorite design. Photos to come! 6th Grade has just started their portfolios after learning a bit about fonts, typeface and how artists use these and create these lettering styles. Students learned the difference between Serif and SanSerif fonts and are creating their portfolios with their name in fun, blocky serif lettering. See photos below!
This week, we went over the syllabus and played an introductory game, Artist Chopped! Ask your artist what they were able to create out of the "Mystery Ingredients". Students also learned how to write an Artist Statement to help them talk about their work.
This week in art, 6th grade students have been hard at work finishing up their Huichol Inspired Yarn Paintings! Some students who finished early learned a new Art Game where they work collaboratively with their tables to create unique characters while giving them a creative backstory. Check out some of the examples! |
