This week has been a very busy week for our 8th graders. We have practiced using shading pencils to give volume to our 3-D forms (cylinder, cone, cube and sphere) while working on value scales. We also learned how to use Prismacolor colored pencils, creating 3-D forms in analogous color schemes. Monday, we will be starting our "Beyond the Borders" project. See previous post for more details. VA Comp students also have been working on their Mythical Creature drawings as well as learning art history. We talked about Art Nouveau and where this style of artwork got its start.

Students: Pease see attached document if you are having trouble attaching your photos to your Weekly account.
Students! Having trouble finding source images for our upcoming Prismacolor/shading Project? Check out this website:
http://animalphotos.info/a/topics/animals/birds/avocets/ Also, need inspiration for the project? Below are the examples from class. We have started our shading unit! After we learn how to shade the 3-D forms, we will begin to work on our shading project. This Friday, students also set up their Weekly accounts to help build and show their art portfolio!
Fantasy Art: Design fantasy art. Mythological interpretations, invented creatures from actual live creatures, fables and fairy tales. Get creative! The more imaginative you can be, the better. A good way to start is to create some sort of fantasy character and then design a complete drawing surrounding that character.
ANY Drawing Media (Digital work is acceptable, as well as encouraged for this project) Must be at least 1 FULL page (fill to the edges!). DUE FRIDAY, AUGUST 25TH We have continued working on our Self Portrait projects and have also started our Friday Art History segment! Students learned about Paleolithic artwork, how it was created and where it all began.
This week, we have gone over the syllabus as well as established classroom expectations. We also have started our first project while learning about some elements of and principals of design such as Line, Value and Contrast. So far, students have created "Personal Inventory" lists of their interests or goals. Students who have finished the list have begun to visually depict these words by finding ways to draw examples of them. These "items" will go into a self portrait of each students to show what makes them the person they are! We look forward to seeing the finished product.
