This week, we went over the syllabus and played an introductory game, Artist Chopped! Ask your artist what they were able to create out of the "Mystery Ingredients". Students also learned how to write an Artist Statement to help them talk about their work.

Recently in art, we have been discussing what Value is and how to create it. Students have started working on their designs for their project centered around value and color theory. Check out how students developed their 7 different values created by using at least 7 different patterns.
This week, students began to finish up their Radial Designs. Each section of each radial design is created using 4 different color schemes. See pictures below! This week in art, we have been discussing Color Theory. Students have completed a worksheet to check for understanding. Students have now started their Radial Design and will paint them using color schemes that they learned about. Students MUST use a Monochromatic color scheme in 1 quadrant, and Analogous color scheme in a quadrant, 2 Tertiary colors in another quadrant and finally 1 set of Complimentary colors in the final quadrant. We wrapped this quarter up with a quick lesson covering Abstract artist, Wassily Kandinsky. We also introduced the basics of Color Theory. Students painted to the various musical styles sampled and came up with these beautiful works. Last week in art, we have been working on completing our "Literal Word Art" project. We discussed logo design as well as the ancient Chinese technique of paper cutting. Check out the student's work below!

This week in art, we finished our first lesson. This lesson was our "Zentangle Initial". We introduced and reviewed vocabulary such as pattern, contrast, repetition, balance, value, hatching, cross-hatching, stippling, plus more. Here are some student examples.
