For our last project of the quarter, students were to take a page from an old book and transform it into a work of art. Students had to "find" a poem by stringing together words in the book page and illustrate the page to match the poem on their book page. Students were allowed to use an medium or mediums of their choice. The possibilities were endless! See the results below. Students are applying their shading skills while completing this "Beyond the Border" project. Students were to choose an animal they like, draw it overlapping a border and then color the animal, plus the background inside the border. Students will later apply different shading techniques to complete the border in graphite.
Last week, we started our shading unit. Students learned about the different types of shading pencils and used them to shade 3D forms. See the handouts and examples below. Students will begin their summative project on shading in just a few days! Students have been working hard on their watercolor Album Cover design. Students were asked to choose a singer, band, or musician and imagine they were hired to design the album cover for one of these musicians' albums. Students had to think about: Font, imagery, colors and watercolor techniques that would properly portray the musicians sound. Photos to come soon!
This week, students began learning about Color Theory and Watercolor Techniques. They created a color wheel using 12 different watercolor techniques, and are applying these techniques to their Album Cover design project. They will continue there Album Cover design next week. This lesson covers the Principles of Design such as: Balance, Unity and Emphasis. Photos to come!
This week in art, we have started creating our portfolios in 2-point perspective. This means that students had to learn how to identify where and what a vanishing point is, and how to create block or bubble letters that go back in space to meet BOTH vanishing points. Check out these photos below! If you have been out: Please see documents below for directions as well as the rubric for this project.
This week, we went over the syllabus and played an introductory game, Artist Chopped! Ask your artist what they were able to create out of the "Mystery Ingredients". Students also learned how to write an Artist Statement to help them talk about their work.
